Presentation in Congress of the new Reports C produced in 2024
We present four new reports, each accompanied by a roundtable discussion at the Spanish Congress, and the event also marked the launch of a three-day pairing scheme.
The event, which marked the beginning of Science Week (Semana C) from 11th to 13th November, brought together key representatives from Spain's foremost scientific, technological, and innovation institutions, alongside researchers, contributors to the report preparation, and other stakeholders in the R&D+i system at both national and European levels.
During the presentation, the President of the Spanish Congress, Francina Armengol, delivered a speech emphasising Oficina C's achievements over the past three years. She drew attention to the office's growth and establishment, which was demonstrated by the extension of its agreement. Izaskun Lacunza, the Director-General of FECYT, also addressed the audience and Oficina C's importance. She elaborated that, following Oficina C´s success, FECYT had launched a new initiative called Science for Public Policy, which aimed to enhance collaboration between researchers and policymakers.
The programme featured four open roundtables centred on the newly released reports, each comprising three specialists and moderated by evidence officers from the Oficina C. During these sessions, the audience was invited to ask questions. Additionally, the reports were further analysed in closed-door sessions called Dialogues C the following day. These meetings gathered experts invited by Oficina C and members of Congress interested in the topics discussed.
As part of this presentation, a new edition of the pairing scheme launched. Between 11th and 13th February, ten scientists, selected from 220 applicants, shared their experience with eight members of Congress and two parliamentary Clerks.
This initiative, now in its third edition, has involved 30 participants since its inception. During the three working days, the researchers deepened their understanding of parliamentary work, attended plenary sessions, and participated in training sessions on science for policy.
