We join the conversation about the connection between science and decision-making in areas that require a fresh look, such as security, crime and delinquency.

On the 24-25 of April, a conference organised by the Spanish Criminal Legislative Policy Group was held in Madrid, focusing on the link between science, knowledge transfer and design of public policies on crime.

The sessions were held at the Centre for Political and Constitutional Studies and the Congress of the Deputies, with the participation of professionals from the academic, institutional and political sectors.

On Friday, 25th of April, Oficina C took part in the round table workshop “Strategies in the current ecosystem of science and decision-making on crime (II)”. The session included the participation of Ana Elorza, head of Oficina C at FECYT.

The workshop discussed current mechanisms for bringing scientific knowledge closer to parliamentary processes, especially in the complex and sensitive area of security and crime.

Ana Elorza’s intervention highlighted the importance of relying on intermediate structures that facilitate this dialogue and help to ensure that public policies are informed by quality and scientific evidence.

Like those held in 2024, in which we also participated, these conferences seek to continue exploring the connections between science and decision-making, which in issues such as those mentioned above (crime, criminality, etc.) require their own reflection.
